D & E Roberts was established in 19??
In 1997 with the introduction of the government levied landfill tax the company undertook to open their waste transfer/ recycling station in Leatherhead in order to increase the amount of waste that was recycled and to help reduce the impact of the landfill tax on prices to our customers. Up until that point only about 10% of waste collected was recycled. This was mainly material such as brick hardcore and soil that had been segregated at source by our customers.
Initially we managed to recycle about 50% of the waste but as we gained more experience and knowledge about what waste materials could be reused we were able to increase this to 60-65%.
In 2008 the company invested in a bespoke recycling facility incorporating the latest waste recycling technology. This plant uses a 20ft screening drum, air knives, magnets and a six bay picking station and we are now able to recycle about 80-85% of the waste received. Materials currently recycled include the following, brick, concrete, soil, wood, metal, paper, cardboard, green waste, UPVC and plasterboard.
By increasing the volume of material that we recycle we have been able to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfill sites and with the landfill tax set to rise annually we have been able to reflect the savings we make on disposal in the prices we charge our customers
